While I'm sad for the tank, that was a hell of a game by the Sharks.

Yep. We need to see the team get rewarded for good play every so often. I'm really liking the Cooch line with Barbie and Mikey. On a deeper team, they would be a monster 3rd line. The Sturm line would be pushed down to 4th. Timo/Hertl/Eklund first line. Just need to get a vet 2C and put Bords on wing and then find another 2W to cap it off.

Which is pretty amazing considering how many times he has mouthed off to the refs over his career

Just curious. What's with the stars under each name? Uber ratings? Did you guys want me to just remove them? As I said, the only thing I modified was the names of the ranks, not any of the star things (Draft Eligible, Junior Hockey, AHL, NHL).

Noah, Noah, Noah. I counted at least 4 shot attempts by him on that empty net. That guy has got to be wondering "what the absolute eff is wrong with me?". *sigh* It's not for lack of effort Noah. lol

Just a question to management about the direction of the Sharks. The Sharks have 28 games remaining. To even sniff a wild card place the Sharks need to win about 22 of those 28. It will take at least 45 of the available 56 points to be even close to the playoffs. So my question is, what the hell is management thinking? Stop winning meaningless games.
I'm enjoying the hockey, but this season ended months ago.

I'm enjoying the hockey, but this season ended months ago. The issue is more that players and coaches won't tank. Many of them are playing for their next contract, attempting to play their way onto a better team, or coaching to keep their job. The only thing the management can do is dump players and they've started doing that a bit (Megna/Nieto). I don't want a Karlsson/Meier trade to be rushed and us not to get the most we can. My evidence that players don't try to tank is the Houston Texans. With around 1 minute left in the last game of their season they completed a hail mary on 4th and 20 and then a successful 2 point conversion for a come from behind victory. Had they lost the game they'd have had the first pick, now they're picking second. Urinating Tree video showing it

You're spot on. Athletes and coaches are wired completely different than normal people. All you can rely on at this point is the other team having better players and more to play for as the season winds down, although Washington whiffed big time today on the latter. I don't think EK65 is going until summer at the earliest but again you're right on Timo. I heard two new names on top of the others mentioned frequently and that's Dallas and Winnipeg.

Sounds like LA is probably getting Chychrun is being traded (probably tomorrow). The initial talk was that it would center around Brandt Clarke but they informed him that he's not being traded.

Our $11m player is playing like a $15m player when we need him to play like a $2m player. Or at least like a $7m player named Vlasic.

I have to admit, and I assume most if not everyone would agree, that Matt Irwin still playing in the league is pretty surprising. Very!

Can you make Hall of Fame at 1000 posts? Done. I'm open to changing any of them (or just getting rid of them altogether), those were just the ranks I came up with on the spot. Also despite me saying NHL was 200 it's actually 250.

I found out that Bibo's is going to have 3 kegs of Pliny the Younger tomorrow, so I know where I'll be going for lunch!
Edit: By tomorrow I mean Monday. Technically that's today since it's after midnight.

Surf is already at 122 and you just started this a couple weeks ago. Maybe some intermediate rankings like "Top line", "All-Star", "Goon", or my favorite, "Trade Bait".

To put EK65's season in some perspective, just heard the stat that Toronto had a D-Man score a PP goal for the first time in 69 games. Ouch/Yikes

I'm not sure that's on the table. Ha
One interesting comment is that the Sharks are pretty adamant that they'd retain no more than 20%. So Edmonton is going have to offload some current money, i.e. Puljarvi, Barrie, etc. Beyond that, draft picks and prospects, no known offers

I'm not sure that's on the table. Ha One interesting comment is that the Sharks are pretty adamant that they'd retain no more than 20%. So Edmonton is going have to offload some current money, i.e. Puljarvi, Barrie, etc. Beyond that, draft picks and prospects, no known offers I just posted about this elsewhere (didn't see this commentary!), but if the word from EDM's de facto mouthpiece Bob Stauffer is on the money (and there's zero reason to think it's not at least mostly on the level), then the offer would be something like this year's first, Evan Bouchard, Xavier Bourgault (these last two effectively acting as two of the three 1sts we're reportedly asking for), Barrie, and Puljujarvi. And if that's the deal, I say we take it and run before Ken Holland realizes what he's doing. This was the kind of deal that would've driven me nuts when I was still an Oilers fan several years ago, but I would LOVE IT now. This would be incredibly stupid of the Oilers to do, and it would get us off the hook financially (minimal retention which we are apparently remaining adamant about) because none of these guys are under contracts beyond '23-'24, and none of them are really bad contracts to begin with, all things considered. Bouchard and Bourgault would be the real gets here, but given the Oilers' propensity for screwing up in the playoffs there's a chance this 1st could be a pick in the teens, and considering how much they have bungled the Puljujarvi situation almost from day one, there's a more than reasonable chance he could be a change-of-scenery guy who actually does better in a new location. And if he doesn't, he's RFA and certainly isn't going to cost much more than the $3M he makes now. And Barrie is EK65-lite with his offense-first sensibilities, so if we don't like what he's doing for us then we probably trade him at next year's deadline for more draft capital. If this weren't coming from Stauffer I would toss it out the window immediately because it really makes no sense. Even with EDM being desperate to win it all with McJesus and Drai, this kind of deal would be the height of lunacy. I'm all for it, and I hope if it's legit (or mostly legit) that Grier pulls the trigger.
