I wonder what the success percentage for a penalty shot is compared to a typical 2 minute PP. I would think that, with shootouts fairly regular, a team would probably take the 2 minute PP if given a choice.

I would think that, with shootouts fairly regular, a team would probably take the 2 minute PP if given a choice. No way would a team prefer the penalty shot. Majority of those I've seen the player awarded the penalty shot had been on the ice for 50+% of their average shift length and not as rested as they are in the shootouts. |

Quite a night for the Tank! I just checked the standings for the first time in a while—4th place in the CBS, based in total points and p%! I was more excited than I care to admit. I really thought we’d be like 6th or 7th, as we’re quite prone to shorking. Of course, even if we by some miracle finished first, I’d fully expect a draft shork, losing CB to Anaheim, no doubt.
But just imagine, Sharks fans, if we finish 4th and win the sweepstakes, ripping Conner Bedard from Anaheim’s evil clutches?!?!

I've seen it suggested for years that teams should get the option to take the 2 minutes Alternative option I've heard/like. Something that draws a penalty shot is presumably taking a better chance away than something that draws a standard penalty. Have the penalty shot and if you fail to score then you get a power play. If you score it's like you scored on the delayed penalty. |
